Hello world!

March 5, 2009

Thr first law of the Teacher is “If you stop growing today, you stop effectivly teaching tomorrow”. This same law could apply to both leadership and ministry. Reading and the study of good books is essential to ongoing growth and success. Keep reading!

I just finished Howard Bakers book Soul Keeping published by Navpress. this short 148 paged work is an excellent overview to the often confusing field of Spiritual Direction. Howards background in both Young Life and dallas Seminary gives him a legitamate  platform within the evangelical camp to discuss these topics. My two favorite chapters were God’s Way of Soul Keeping. I intend to use some of the chapter next week in Spiritual Formations in Youth Ministry the other great strength of the book is the strategic use of quotes from Christians from all traditions from the whole relm of  Church history. The book would be worth reading if only for the quotes.

Disapointment! It is the only word that comes to mind to discribe my reading of My First 90 Days in Ministry published by Group. 15 out of the 59 pages were blank/short prompt  journal sheets. Another 5 pages were taken up with full page large font Biblical passages. I am currently teaching Youth Program Administration so am always searching for resourses for students soon to be graduated and entering full time ministry. There is a great need for a book that covers this important subject material, it is too bad but this is not the work to fill the gap.
