Back To The Basics of Young Life

December 14, 2010

In 1995 John Miller long time Young Life staff member wrote the book Back To The Basics of Young Life to communicate some of the stories, peoples and principles that make up the DNA of Young Life. The stories about Jim Rayburn are worth the price of the book which is designed for entry level youth workers learning the basics or long time ministers interested in the history of working with students in the US. The amazing thing to realize is that when the book was written “relational youth minitry”, “earning the right to be heard” and “campus contact work” were still not the universal foundations of all forms of youth ministry as the are today but the singular strategy of para-church youth ministries. If you work with YL (as I have) this book is worth your time in locating a copy to read and then pass on to the next generation of leaders who will follow us.
