Great Quotes to Inspire Great Teachers by Noah ben Shea (Corwin Press2002)

July 30, 2011

If you do not agree with the quotation from the Talmud, “A quotation at the right moment is like bread in a famine” then you don’t need to read this book. I admit at the beginning I have a weakness for good books full of useful quotes because I use them all the time in preaching, teaching and communicating (& parenting). The fact that these quotes are organized into 26 chapters that lend themselves to teaching thems is a plus. The author/editor/collector Noah Ben Shea has a great pedigree and list of accomplishemnts but I had never heard of him before reading this book. He includes a couple of his own quotes in almost every chapter some are very good others just so so. Many of the familure quotes are here as are people quoted with two notible exceptions C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton are not mentioned and of the great ministry communicators only Vance Havner is included. Because so many familure Christian quotes are not included in the books 188 pages(4-6 pquotes per page) there is room for lesser known quotes like ” Life is amazing:and the teacher had better prepare himself to be a medium for that amazment” Edward Blishen I like that quote I like this book and so will you if you use qotes when you teach!
