Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary (New Testament)

May 31, 2012

The Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary New Testament in 4 volumes is edited by Clinton E. Arnold. This gem of a collection of Biblical insights is a welcome addition to any student of the SScriptures. The abundance of maps, full color pictures and the most up to date archaeological research available make it more than just another commentary on the shelf. Each book features important facts, outline, sidebars, and applications. Excellent notes and annotated bibliography round out each New Testament book. Douglas Moo of Wheaton is featured prominently as the commentator on Romans and other books including James, 1 Peter and 2 Peter. Doug’s reputation is well earned in the field of New Testament studies and his work here does not disappoint. With so many commentaries and Biblical helps struggling  for attention this comprehensive easy to use resource stands head and shoulders above its competitors. The insights on “lukewarm” (p.276 Vol. 4) are worth the cost of the volume.
