Today Matters

Dr. John C. Maxwell’s book Today Matter: 12 Practices To Guarantee Tomorrow.s Success (Center Street Publishing, 2004) combines all the elements one would expect from a Maxwell book including great stories, motivational quotes, inspirational examples and great readibility but this book has a bit more. The 4-5 pages at the end of every chapter are titled “Application and Exercises” which serve as a workbook with prompts for very specific, personal applications. Each begins with an oppertunity to assess current progress and build from ones  existing life foundation. The chapters include expected themes like Attitude, Priorities, Commitment and Growth but also the very personal Health and Generosity topics that share portions of John’s story including both success and failure. As a rule I try to read a Maxwell book every 3 months or so because so often they remind me of what I already know but sometimes become sloppy in applying. If you are already a fan this book will not disapoint. If you are looking for a book to read to introduce yourself to John Maxwell this is a winner as well.
