Two By Louie Giglio

July 4, 2015

I begin by confessing that I am a fan of Louie Giglio. He is a brilliant communicator whose video The 7 Words of Christmas touches my heart every year. It was a great pleasure to be reading two books by Louie at the same time. The first, THE AIR I BREATH:Worship as a way of Life (Multnomah Press, 2003) is part of the “small Books Big Change ” series is short but full of insight. It is a “full Service” book with both study questions and quotation/Scripture citations. The book defines the simplest definition of worship as, “Worship is our response to what we value most” (p.10) Utilizing this as a foundation Louie explores Scripture and slowly expands the definition to finally “Worship is our response both personal and private to God for who He is and what He has done. (p. 55) Overall the writing is crisp, the Scripture explained well and application points practical. It would be a great book to lead a “worship team” though or for individual study. This is an easy to access useful introduction or reminder of the basics of worship.
The Second book, i am not but I know I AM:Welcome To The Story of God (Multnomah Press, 2005) has a confusing title that is an important part of the Truth Louis is presenting about ourselves and God. The book is devotional in posture with some focus on Moses. Scientific info is an important part of the discussion especially in the Chapter “LIGHT Flies (p.42-56). Of special interest is his use of “The One Word Bible Study Method” utilized in the book and further explained in Appendix A and a special Appendix on the Beatitudes. This a book that would work devotionaly for students or any one young at heart. It will serve the speaker well with great quotes and stories as one would expect from Louie Giglio!
